The midterm presentation was useful, not only for getting useful feedback from critics, but also in helping me take stock and assess my own progress. The process of making a presentation is a great way to reflect on the project and spot areas to work on. I realised that I have made progress since the start of the semester, which is always encouraging. The narrative of the project is starting to come together as well.

This didn’t go as well as I’d hoped. The presentation slides weren’t bad, and the timing was okay. I usually end on 7 minutes but I was tripping over some words and getting a bit lost in the narrative. It could definitely be cleaner. The idea was conveyed successfully, to a point where the critics identified better ways to describe it. The examples presented weren’t successful, and more time could have been spent explaining the visuals created.

I have been asking many questions, but haven’t yet gotten around to answering them well. There have been some moments of clarity where attempts have been made to answer some of them. My project is effectively a reflective one, which helps me remain in a fairly reflective zone. Some of the ideas and provocations have been interesting, but there remains much to be desired when it comes to fleshing them out. More detail, more work is needed. The narrative and form of the project is less hazy that it was before and it seems to be more focussed and effective.

Much improvement needed. Progress has been painfully slow, almost as if the project is pushing against an immovable wall. There’s been a few bright sparks, but more experimentation might help. The research paper, website and visuals are pushing the project in the right direction, but more is needed. More failures in order to achieve more successes.

It’s not easy to say whether I have done a thorough job of connecting all the appropriate historic and contemporary precedents, as I’ve found that sometimes I come to the same conclusions without having read up on previous projects. This time around, there are more references to previous precedents which are helping form a concrete argument for the approach and as inspiration for more artefacts. I haven’t yet gotten to the stage where I can start making concrete conclusions, a distinct omission.

The spread of mediums explored has been fairly okay so far, and a few more explorations may lead to discovering the right form for the project. Needs more work.

This is a problem–time management has been suboptimal, which has affected the creation of iterations and final production plan. Not sure if it will ever be possible to catch up, but would be nice to get closer.
